Sri Lanka School Curriculum to be changed this year
The school curriculum is to be changed this year 2014.

The composition of the school curriculum is to be changed this year.  The National Educational Institute is carrying out the changes at present.
The curriculum of schools is changed once in every 8 years.  This was stated by the Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Education Hemantha Premathilaka participating in the Subharathee Discussion Programme of the SLBC this morning.  He said that when punishing the students teachers should focus more attention on carrying out such punishments without affecting the mental status of the students.  He said that the United Nations Convention has pointed out that providing advisory service is better than punishment.  The Additional Secretary pointed out that the attention of the Ministry has been focused on establishing Child Protection Committees centering the schools.
Joining the discussion Professor Praneeth Abeysundera of the Social Science Unit of the Sri Jayawardenapura University said that surveys carried out recently have indicated that students are using more time on Computers than watching television programmes.  He said that due to the breakdown in the relationship between the students and the parents, children are focusing more attention on these activities.
