Anthare Protest march Colombo today
Inter University Students Federation IUSF “ Anthare” has organized a protest march today noon (Oct 21) in Colombo. Protest will be starting at about 11.30am from Visual & Performing Arts University near Nelum Pokuna. Still they are not decided the destination but may be Temple Trees Kollupitiya !

Students are demanding to stop the students suppress by the government. Time and the protest rally will be update via this website. There may be a traffic Jam !

·        Key highlights of Budget 2015

·        1.40 pm -President opens his speech with a preamble of the developments of the past few years including the war and the post-war developments.
·        1.45 pm – The rural economic developments followed by the g0vernment are based on ancient, traditional and post-independence leaders who were also concerned about this. We are building a new economy based on these ideals.
·        1.50 pm -Infrastructure development was neglected during the  war but there been rapid infrastructure development when the war ended in May 2009
·        1.53 pm – Former LTTE cadres are being reintegrated, trained and absorbed to the armed forces and the police.
·        2 pm – While receiving foreign aid, Sri Lanka has also been transformed to a country that provides aid to countries in crisis and in disaster situations
·        2 pm – Our Government will increase the per capita income of each individual by four times in coming years.

·        *3.52 pm – Supermarket complex at a cost of Rs. 1.2 billion to be established at 9-acre Chalmers Granary in Colombo
·        3.54 pm – The elderly to receive increase in monthly payment to Rs 2000 from Rs 1000. Special day care centres with all facilities including TVs to be set up for elders.
·        4 pm – Rs 100 million financial assistance scheme for those who produce tele dramas reflecting family values
·        4.01 pm – Motorcycle loans at concessionary rates for suburban teachers * 4.05 pm – Pension and insurance scheme for 3-wheeler drivers

Minimum monthly salary of the State Sector employee increased to Rs. 15,000.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Minister of Finance and Planning will present the 2015 Budget (Aya Weya අය-වැය) to parliament today (October 24)  at 1.30 pm for its first reading.
The President and the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. P.B. Jayasundara reviewed the budget proposals at the Temple Trees yesterday. The 2015 budget proposals have been formulated targeting the next five-year period from 2015 to 2017. This year theme is Unstoppable Sri Lanka 2020.

This is the 10th straight budget presented by him after assuming duties as President in 2005. It is widely expected that the budget would introduce economic policies to further alleviate poverty, increase economic growth and accelerate the existing development programmes.

The government has estimated 1.812 trillion rupees (approximately US$ 14 billion) as expenditure for its services for the financial year of 2015.
The Appropriation Bill 2015 targets a budget deficit of 4.4 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) for the next year while expecting a growth rate of 8.2 percent.
The debate on the Second Reading stage of the budget will commence on October 25 and continue till November 01. The vote on Second Reading stage would be taken at 5.00 p.m. on November 01.
The committee stage debate on budget 2015 is scheduled to commence on November 03 and will continue daily except for Sundays till November 24. The final vote of the budget 2015 is scheduled to be taken at 5.00 p.m. on November 24.
The government says it focused on a Medium Term Budgetary Framework 2015 - 2017 mainly to ensure development by creating more livelihood and employment opportunities, food security, energy security and environmental safety with particular emphasis on low income and poor families.

According to the government, next year budget, which is focused on accelerating the development, will provide a wide array of concessions including reduction of fuel and gas prices and electricity tariff.

2014 Grade 5 Scholarship Exam Cut Off marks to be reduced?

According to the 2015 Budget proposals, Education Ministry to be reduced the cut-off marks for students who sat the August 2014 Grade / Year Five Scholarship Examination (Paha Wasara Shishathawa Wibagaya). 163 Pass marks to be reduced 157 marks and for rural districts it Pass Marks will be marks 152. - Lankadeepa
2014 Grade 5 scholarship examination cut-off marks for popular schools will be released in December.                   

The Education Ministry says the Grade 5 scholarship examinations' cut-off marks for selection of students for popular Schools will be released on the 15th of December. The relevant forms to apply for popular schools have already been sent to the zonal directors of education.
Then the application forms will be given to the relevant principals to be distributed among the parents or guardians of the students. The application forms should be duly filled and handed over to the principals to be directed to the ministry. Accordingly, the students will receive new schools in January.

Cut off Marks Year 5 Scholarship Examination reduced(details after budget 2nd reading)

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardana said that the cut-off-point of the Year-5 scholarship examination has been reduced from 163 to 157. At the moment Scholarships are given only to 15,000 students. Sri Lanka President presenting 2015 Budget proposed to increase it up to 25,000. Hence Ministry has decided to reduce the marks.

Addressing a meeting held at the Watareka Junior School, the minister said this was enabled after the number scholarships has been increased from 15 thousand to 25 thousand in the 2015 budget proposals. At the same time, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said during the budget speech that the current Year-5 scholarship grant of 500 rupees will be increased upto 1,500 rupees. Minister Gunawardana said that Year-5 scholarship recipients will be paid the new study grant with effect from the month of January next year.
Reduced marks will be published after 2nd budget readings.

The Education Ministry says the Grade 5 scholarship examinations' cut-off marks for selection of students for popular Schools will be released on the 15th of December.

Compare to last 5-10 years, University Rag (Nawaka Wadaya නවක වදය ) has been dramatically reduced.  Still it is prevailing secretly within the university system. Stern action will be taken against those who are involving in ragging incidents Higher Education Minister said.


The new academic year is to commence. Last academic year’s Rag season, only few ragging incident have been reported.
Sri Lankan Higher Education Minister S.B.Dissanayake said that authorities would not hesitate to take tough action against raggers including possible expulsion of students found guilty of ragging in order to protect freshers.

The UGC announces that students are being enrolled to the universities as per the GCE A Level results of year 2013. 

Medical and engineering courses will commence at the end of this month. Chairperson of the UGC Kshanika Hirimburegama told that the appeals forwarded to the UGC regarding the university entrance is taken in to the consideration at present.


Mahapola Scholarship amount at the universities have been raised. Accordingly, a student will receive 4,000 rupees as the Mahapola stipend and 500 million rupees has been allocated for the research works of the university system.

According to the 2015 Budget proposals, Education Ministry to be reduced the cut-off marks for students who sat the August 2014 Grade / Year Five Scholarship Examination (Paha Wasara Shishathawa Wibagaya). 163 Pass marks to be reduced 157 marks and for rural districts Pass Marks will be marks 152.

2014 Grade 5 scholarship examination cut-off marks for popular schools will be released in December. 
                 
The Education Ministry says the Grade 5 scholarship examinations' cut-off marks for selection of students for popular Schools will be released on the 15th of December.

The relevant forms to apply for popular schools have already been sent to the zonal directors of education. Then the application forms will be given to the relevant principals to be distributed among the parents or guardians of the students. The application forms should be duly filled and handed over to the principals to be directed to the ministry. Accordingly, the students will receive new schools in January.


Examination based on Budget proposal will be released Today.  The results can be surfed on the Internet.  President Mahinda Rajapaksa has proposed in the 2015 Budget to increase the number of Grade 5 Scholarships from 15,000 to 25,000.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Education has reduced the cut off marks from 163 to 157.  The cut off marks based on school levels will also be released shortly.  At the same time the budget has proposed to increase the Scholarship Assistance from 500 rupees to 1500 rupees.  The students who have obtained 70 marks for both papers will be issued a certificate confirming that they have passed the Examination.  He said that the cut off marks has announced for the purpose of providing relevant scholarships. 

The Minister announced that from the 18th of this month the Mahindodaya Scholarship fund will be established to provide scholarships to secondary education students. 

He said under this fund scholarships will be provided to the students who are studying GCE Ordinary level and GCE Advanced level.  The Minister said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has donated his salary for the fund and the people can also contribute for this fund.  He also stated that Information Technology will be taught in the schools as a subject from next year onwards.  This subject will be taught from Grade 6 onwards.  Speaking further the Minister said that all Mahindodaya schools will be upgraded as English speaking schools from next year.   He said that another programme of providing 20 marks for English listening and Speech   will be introduced from the year 2017.  Under this programme the Friday school meeting will be held in the English Language.  In addition to this, he said that steps have been taken to establish Mahinda Rajapaksa Colleges in the 9 Provinces and thereby increase the Information Technology Literacy to 75 percent by the year 2016.

Commissioner General of Examinations W.M.N.J Pushpakumara notes that steps are being taken to gather the results. A total of 234.197 applicants sat for the recently concluded G.C.E Advanced Level examinations;  62.134 of them were private applicants.

2014 A/L Exam Results Released December 27
2014 G.C.E. Advanced Level examinations (A/L Exam UsasPela Prathipala) held from August 5 to 29.Sri Lankan Commissioner General of Examinations, W.M.N.J. Pushpakumara said that 234,197 school applicants and 62,116 private applicants sat for the examination this year, which held at 2120 centers.

University Entrance process will be as follows. 

  1. First re-scrutinized A/Level results 2014 should be released. 
  2. Then University Hand Book will be issued. 
  3. After issuing the Hand Book students should be fill it and send to UGC.
  4. Based on students’ desired course students have to apply for aptitude tests after publishing on national newspapers. 
  5. After that students have to sit for Aptitude Tests depend on their selected courses. Then aptitude test results will released by relevant universities.
  6. Z score cut off marks will be released with selected degree course.
  7. After that 3 week leadership Training program will be held.
  8. Finally University Registration!

Meanwhile Higher education Ministry says that the students who are qualified for the 2015 University Academic year based on 2014 A/L results will be admitted before the end of 2015.
