Young poet & short story writer Ruwan Bandujeewa won the "Vidyodaya Literary Award" for the best Sinhala Poet during 2013.
The award (Vidyodaya Sahithya Sammana) is one of several presented annually by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (Japura Campus) to celebrate creative poem writing and literature in Sri Lanka.
Each September, the university's faculty members and students announce their selection of the preceding year's most outstanding published books in the Sinhala language.
The award ceremony, held on 2 September 2014, recognized the best Sinhala novel, best short story collection, best poetry collection, best lyrics collection and the best newspaper column of 2013.
Ruwan won the award for his Sinhala language poem book titled Meelanga Meewitha.
Speaking to “Lanka University News” Ruwan Bandujeewa told that he is very happy about the award and further said that this is an unforgettable day in his life.
A Collection of poetry named මීළඟමීවිත“MEELANGA MIVITHA” (THE NEXT VINE) by the young poet Ruwan Bandujeewa launched at the National Library and Documentation Services Board,Colombo on 14th December 2013. This poem collection include 35 poems various topics including Love.
The writer launched his maiden poetry Alcohol Nomathy Sanda (The Moon Sans Alcohol) On 29th April 2008 at the Baza Hall in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
Ruwan Bandujeewa holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
