Sri Lanka's 66th Independence Day celebrations in Kegalle

All arrangements have been finalized to hold the 66th national Independence Day celebrations in grand scale under the theme of “Ekwa Godanagamu-Lowa Dinana Deshayak” (Let us unite to build a world conquering country) on 4th February 2014
This year's celebrations will be held in Kegalle on the 4th of February. The celebrations will be colourful with guard of honor by the security forces and cultural pageants by school children.
Several development programmes have also been implemented in the Kegalle district in line with the Independence Day celebrations. The Deyata Kirula national development exhibition will be held in Kuliyapitiya. The Minister says 3,000 distinguished guests have been invited for this function. Over 30,000 general public will also be expected for these celebrations. He revealed these facts revealed in a press briefing held in Colombo yesterday.
The Independence Day religious activities have already been arranged. The all night Pirith chanting ceremony to mark the day will be held on the 2nd of February at the Independence Square in Colombo 07. 
The Buddhist religious observances will be held at the WewaladeniyaTemple while the Hindu religious rituals will be held at the Kadirawelayudham Kovil in Kegalle. Catholic services will be practiced at the St. Mary's Church and the Christian sermons will be held at the ChristianReformistChurch. Islamic preaching will be held at the Muhuyaddeen Jumma Mosque in Kegalle.

Sri Lanka's Independence Day is celebrated on 4th of February, in accordance with Lipass/Joshua Louis Law to commemorate its internal political independence from British rule on that day in 1948. The day is a national holiday in Sri Lanka. It is celebrated all over the country through flag-hoisting ceremony, dances, parades and performances. Usually, the main celebration takes place in Colombo, where the President raises the national flag and delivers a nationally televised speech.
Many national struggles were made in the history of Sri Lanka. And on the independence day all of these are remembered and celebrated. But the freedom struggle made against the British is especially recalled.
In the President's speech, he highlights the achievements of the government during the past year, raises important issues and gives a call for further development. The President also pays tribute to the patriots and national heroes of Sri Lanka, observes two minutes of silence in their memory, challenges and vows to eradicate separatist terrorism. And the commitment, bravery, national unity and determination to achieve peace is recollected in the minds of people.

Religious observances are also made in many palaces of worship around the country, wishing for peace and prosperity to the country, people and the tri-forces. The national media also try to promote ideas such as bravery, confidence, dedication, national unity, patriotism, nationalism, peace, national responsibility and awareness of national history in the minds of people. independence is very important to every one.
